Shift Labs
Every company will be rebuilt around agents. Not assisted by them, run by them.
Forward Deployed Engineers are how that reaches the ground. You will sit at the seam between agents and the businesses that depend on them: understanding the work, building the thing that does it, and staying until it runs.
This is not a support role or an integration role. You are an engineer who ships, in front of the people the work is for.
What you'll do
- Go deep on a real business problem, then build the thing that solves it end to end.
- Write production code daily — whatever it takes to make the work actually run.
- Take messy, real-world processes and make them run.
- Own outcomes, not tickets. You're responsible for the work landing and holding up, not for handing off a spec.
- Move between talking to the people who do the work and being heads-down building in the same afternoon.
What we're looking for
- 2+ years building and shipping real software. You've owned things in production, not just prototypes.
- Strong, pragmatic engineer — you reach for the simplest thing that works and you can debug what you didn't write.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs. You already build with them, not just read about them.
- Genuinely excited about what agents change. You think the way work gets done is being rewritten, and you want to be the one holding the pen.
- Customer-oriented by instinct. You'd rather sit with the person whose problem it is than guess from a distance.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and speed. Little process, high trust, short path from idea to running.
- Clear communicator across the technical/non-technical line.
Nice to have
- You've been the person a customer or team leaned on to make something work.
Why this
You'll do the most direct work of your career — building things that carry real responsibility, for real people, from day one. Small team, serious problem, no distance between what you build and whether it matters.
